We came across a small winery just outside of downtown Carlton, Oregon, in the Willamette Valley region several years ago. I was struck immediately by the wine label, which was a labyrinth. So they had me at that. And then the wines were interesting and surprising. And the winemaker was a classmate (I don't think they knew each other though) of my wife at their California college. But the icing on the proverbial cake? The vines are in the pattern of a labyrinth. Among the hillside rows and fruit trees galore, there is a distinct labyrinth entirely created from planted vines. It is a rare sight and always gives me pleasure to see. Of course, the look and feel of the display varies greatly as the vines go through their annual growth stages. The winery is called Dominio IV. Worth a visit.
