I had heard that if I only walked one labyrinth in all of Los Angeles, this was the one to find. So I was intrigued. The setting is certainly memorable, set high atop a hill in the lush, expansive Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale. The cemetery itself is an impressive place, with slopes and valleys across a very large footprint. It took me several minutes of driving to reach what I thought was the peak, and then I discovered that I still had a ways to go to arrive at the labyrinth. Fortunately, there is excellent signage around the cemetery for all of the different aspects of it, and it is a cemetery so everyone is driving and walking slowly. No need to rush around this place. The labyrinth is set into the stone and offers nearly panoramic views of the surrounding area. It’s a reflective, somber space given the setting. As for design, it is modeled on the traditional Chartres cathedral style.
