I had high hopes (get it?) for this one in Hope, RI, a rural community about a half-hour from Providence. Fall is a beautiful time of year there and mild weather made the foliage even more splendid. Before heading to the Shepherd of the Valley United Methodist Church, I called to confirm the labyrinth's location and existence. I don't often do this, but since this church is nowhere near I was going to be, I didn't want to end up at a dead end. I was assured that the labyrinth, while a bit overgrown and obscured, was there, and I followed a path from the church into the woods past a butterfly garden. In the clearing, there was a firepit, some seats and even a peace pole. And in the large grassy center was a labyrinth. Sort of.
