Oakland, CA - Inside a caldera

When a volcano erupts, one results is large crater in the earth. That's called a caldera. I'm not sure I knew the name for this until a few years ago, but thanks to seeking out these walks, I've come to find a bunch of them. The Sibley Volcanic Preserve in the in the Oakland hills in the Bay Area, and it has several labyrinths according to online posts. One of the most prominent is call the Mazzariello Labyrinth. My online directions said it would be a 0.75 mile walk into the park. I walked that distance and looked around, climbed high and low, and saw nothing. I walked a little further and was about to give up when I encountered two local hikers who looked very much at ease in the park. Right off the trail is an overlook spot - from there I could spot the rock formation a short walk down the trail below. It was spectacular and worth the hike there and back. Bring water.
