Amid large homes and busy streets in Pasadena, I came across Arlington Garden, a three-acre botanical garden and mini-oasis from southern California’s crowds and activity. It’s been open nearly 20 years and is the only free public garden in Pasadena. Naturally, I hoped to find a labyrinth there, and I wasn’t disappointed. I enjoyed walking around the property – which features examples of plant life for each of the four seasons – and numerous small-scale water and garden features. And while the paths through the garden felt labyrinth-like themselves, there was an actual one at the rear of the property, adjacent to one of the more interesting, and gnarly, trees I’ve seen. Colored stones line the circular paths, and while the ground is uneven, it’s generally accessible to all. The garden was busy that day but somehow I had the labyrinth to myself for my brief visit in this garden gem.
