There's a great story to be told at Fairsing Vineyard, resting high atop a hill in Yamhill County in the Oregon wine country known as the Willamette Valley. And while the wine is terrific, notable and exciting, that's not the story that drew me here. There is of course a beautiful seven-circuit grass and brick labyrinth in prominent display. It's not hidden, relegated, half-covered or hard to find. It is the centerpiece of an idyllic setting. The owner was inspired by his Irish roots in its design and build. If it evokes a Celtic knot in its looping center, you're not mistaken. And the entire design acts as a sundial from the shadow of the winery building. On a recent visit, I was able to browse a healthy collection of labyrinth-related books, and better yet, hear from the proprietor how it came to be. For a labyrinth-phile like myself, it was a true pleasure. As you walk this labyrinth, take in the mountain views in several directions. And then, before or after, but definitely at some point while up there, have - and buy for later - some vino!
